Kan-i

"Kan-i embodies the confidence of a dog that knows her own worth. The Shiba is aware of her surroundings at all times. This sense of awareness allows the Shiba to recognize friend from foe. The Shiba will not shy away from a threat nor will she react with unwarranted aggression. A confident Shiba stands her ground willing to defend herself and her family if the need arises. Many Shiba owners state their Shiba won't start a fight, but will be happy to finish one." Shiba Inus: A Complete Pet Owners Manual by Laura Payton.

The Divine Trinity

On this humble Sunday, one can smell religiousity in the air. Rosh Hashanah and Ramadan have both begin on this week which is slowly emerging in to Autumn. The Woman prepares for the Equinox, and honors the Harvest Moon which means plenty of time in the garden. It also means my evening constitutionals are in twilight hours, and much more relaxing, cooler temperatures as I prepare myself for the colder winter temperatures.

But today, I contemplate the Divine Trinity of what is Shiba:

Eggs
Salmon
Cheese

with the Body (Potatoes) and the Blood (The People's Sancerre), this weekend was filled with the smell of Baked Salmon and Potatoes, followed by a morning of omelets with salmon and cheese, with fried potatoes on the side. If we are allowed in Heaven, I am sure this is what Shibas are served every night and morning.

Life is always so much better when That Guy is around. The Woman actually cooks decent meals again and I receive my honored share rather than leftover yogurt containers.

And today is Sunday, The Woman will be making the lunches of the week. This is good for there are always samples which require my approval.

Squirrels and Sunday mornings

The last few days have been hectic for The Woman. She has returned to work, she is in school, and people are bothering her. She is also still working out, and overall, is busy so my walks have been limited to quick excursions although I have gotten to ride in the car more frequently.

She has been so busy that we have not visited any of our lady friends (i.e., my job!) although she tells me that I will be doing that tomorrow.

So this morning I was very pleased when I was taken on a nice walk right after my breakfast. The cats are all gathered on the stoops of their houses, waiting to be let in, and there are a few people puttering around in their yards that we greet.

And then, two squirrels decide to have a chase and a fight right in the middle of the road, right where I can get them. I am not even sure that they saw me until I got very close, and I would have chased them except that the leash was too short. But I waited for some time for them to come down from their tree (which they did not) and looked around for more squirrels to chase (which there were not), and finally conceded that it was time to return home.

Oh, speaking of home, That Guy is back. Yesterday we played ball and I got to destroy it. It is good to see him even though he put his suitcase on my seat for the ride home.

That Guy Still Missing So We Stole His Car

Mustang! > *

T- 7 days and counting, The Woman tells me and That Guy will be back. So, she says, we must please him and have his car looking nice before his return.

Please him? Please him? Since when has that ever been a concern of mine?

My interest is merely to be seen around town in the shiny red car. A Shiba in a sports car. There is no better combination.

After all, I am a guy too- and while I have to live with the fact that my family can not afford the Porsche which would improve my community and social standing to notable heights - I have learned that The Red Mustang is enough of an attention getter to match my ego.

First, we go to the car wash where not only is the car admired but so am I. There are other dogs, barking and prancing around; I lie calmly, awaiting the arrival of my carriage. It took awhile, but the public paid homage to me and when it arrived, I must say, those boys did a very nice job.

Then we drove to a gas station where two men approached the car and talked to The Woman. I know that they were, of course, discussing the elegant Shiba stretched out in the back which only enhances the beauty and value of the car itself, and when we went to a 3rd location, one person even commented on how comfortable I looked.

Yes, I was built for sports cars and a life of luxury. Fortunately, That Guy understands what The Woman does not comprehend. I can only hope that his next car lives up to the standards with which he has raised me.
